Strangest Things Found in a Skip

22 October 2018

Being an established provider of skips, PAL Hire has been lucky when collecting skips. We’ve only ever found debris or hazardous waste in our skips. We’ve scoured the internet to find some of the most unusual things found in a skip:

Long Lost Films

Peter Sellers was best known for his role as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in The Pink Panther, so it was a rare find when two of his earliest films were found in their original film canisters in a skip on-site.

Thousand Pound Shoes

If you unknowingly threw away items worth a lot of money, you’d be beside yourself. Imagine the relief this woman felt when a collection company found and returned a €1,500 shoe.

One in £250,000 Find

Some people have all the luck in the world, whereas others have none. A worker once found a 1939 Vincent HRD Series-A Rapide motorcycle dumped in a skip. This motorcycle is one of 65 and has been valued at £250,000.

History in Pictures

Photographs of the construction of Tower Bridge were rescued from a skip by a caretaker. Given when Tower Bridge was constructed these photographs were of historical value and have since been donated to the Tower Bridge Museum.

A Caravan

This story comes from South Wales, where one unique individual thought they could dispose of their caravan by balancing it on the skip. Their skip hire company refused to take the caravan away until it had been broken into several pieces and placed the same as normal waste.

Given it’s so close to Christmas, I thought we’d end this article on a serious note. Several pets have been found in skips, including dogs, rabbits, and cats, with most being found at the start of a new year. Pets are not just for Christmas, they are for life.
